Holiday Monday...not for me

Let me start off by saying that is royally sucks that I'm here at work on what's supposed to be a holiday Monday (Victoria Day). Victoria Day isn't a "stat" holiday, therefore companies do not have to give their workers the day off or pay their workers time and a half for hours worked on this holiday. Here's the completely ridiculous part though...the government has determined that Victoria Day is not a stat holiday, however it requires retail stores to observe a national day of rest and forbids retail outlets from opening on Victoria Day. Um, I thought the government decided it wasn't a stat holiday, therefore where does it come off telling certain businesses that they have to close for the day (and lose revenue) and also retail employees can't work that day (missed wages) and can't get holiday pay for the day to make up for the hours lost (because it's not a stat holiday). Gawd I love our government.

Nothing too exciting to report from the weekend. The weather was so crappy so there was nothing really going on. Friday night Ryan came over and we watched *brace yourself* Ernest goes to camp, lol. We were looking through all my old movies and decided to watch that one since we hadn't seen it in like 20 years, lol. Saturday morning Ryan had to work until 1 p.m. and I just did errands the majority of the day. Saturday night we rented a few movies, got some beer and ordered a pizza. Last night it was a repeat of Saturday - minus the pizza, lol. Exciting weekend I tell ya. In reality though, it was a nice weekend. I spent the whole weekend doing absolutely nothing but spend quality time with Ryan.

Rain, Rain - go away!

This week has been pretty blah with the weather and all and nothing too exciting to blog about. I'm glad today is Friday, but it sucks that it's not a long weekend for me. Victoria Day isn't a statuary holiday, so people like me who work for tight-a$$ companies have to work that day as if it were any other day. Sucks! lol.

I have absolutely no plans for this weekend at all. Angela and I thought about going to Houlton, Maine to do some grocery shopping, but with crappy rain forecasted for the whole weekend, we decided against that plan.

Draggin On...

I'm back to working my night shifts. Last week was so nice - getting off at the same time as the majority of the workforce. I only wish that those shifts could continue, but alas, I'm here tonight until 8:45.

I found that yesterday dragged on so badly and I know it's because last week while I was working, the majority of my customers were business renters - people who know what they're doing and just want a confirmation, they don't care how much it costs. I love those types of customers. I can usually have them off the phone in under a minute.

Last Saturday Kim and Jon invited us over for a BBQ. We got there around 3:30-ish and had a great time. It was our first go-to BBQ of the season. Ryan BBQ'd for me about 3 weeks ago, so that was our first taste of BBQ for the season. When it got dark and chilly out, we went inside and played some poker before we retired for the evening. Nothing too much planned for this week. The weather is supposed to be rainy for the remainder of the work week, so I imagine I'll have no ambition to do anything, lol.

And then there were (will be) three...

On Monday Carrie and Chris celebrated their 1 month anniversary as husband and wife. It doesn't seem like their wedding was a month away. Time really does fly when you get old, lol!

Carrie and Chris' plan all along was to try and get pregnant as soon as they were married. Carrie emailed me yesterday afternoon and told me to give her a call at 5:30 last night, that she had some news for me. I had a pretty good idea before I called her, what the news would be.

Yes folks...I'm going to be an Aunt!!! Carrie and Chris are expecting a baby on January 14th, 2008!!! I am so happy and excited for them! The only sad part is that they live in Ontario, so I won't be able to watch Carrie's belly grow more and more and I won't be able to watch their little one grow and develop into the wonderful child that I know Carrie and Chris will do so well raising.

Carrie is planning on coming home 3 times this year, before she gives birth and I imagine that she'll be home quite a bit with the baby, as her parents are living here in Fredericton too, so that's definately a plus.

I'm in awe that they actually got pregnant the first month of trying. Carrie has been pretty smart though, taking preparations months before they actually conceived. Congratulations guys! I'm so excited for you both! I'm sure I will drive you nuts calling you all the time and asking how you're doing/how you're feeling, etc.! I love you guys!

Hump Day

I'm loving these shifts this week and getting off work and having supper at the normal supper time that the majority of the population does. It's been a bit of an adjustment to switch my body clock over though - I'm used to staying up super late and not having to rise early in the morning. Today I'm feeling really sluggish and tired. I wish I could keep working these shifts though and not have to finish up with them on Friday.

Yesterday after work I drove out to Shelly's place and had supper with her and the kids. Every time I see her kids, they're different - meaning they're growing so fast!

After I got back home last night from Shelly's, Ryan stopped in. He was out cruising all evening on his motorcycle and stopped in when he was finished his ride. He wasn't able to stay the night though as he was cruising and didn't have his suit with him for work for the next day.

Caught A Break

I caught a lucky break at work for this week. I'm working day shifts, starting my day at 8:30 instead of 12 noon. I'm still taking calls for Brand "A" and my contract for doing so go extended for that until September - which I was very happy about. This means that I can keep working Monday til Friday until September. Although my regular start time isn't until noon, I'm still happy, because the alternative was me having no weekends off all summer long if I was still doing Brand "B". Who knows too, maybe I'll get lucky again and get another shift trade for an earlier start time some other week when they have another gap to fill.

This weekend went by pretty fast, although I didn't really do too much. Friday night I went up to my parent's place after work for a little visit. This Saturday was Ryan's Saturday to work, so I knew he wouldn't be over on Friday night (he goes home from work on Friday nights and stays there when he works Saturdays). Saturday I went to the market with my brother and his roommate Luke and then Ryan came home to my place after he got off work at lunchtime. I had gotten him a treat for lunch while I was at the market, so he was happy :).

My roof has been leaky for a little while now, but only when it's raining super hard and the wind is blowing. It's not a huge problem (yet) but one that needs to get solved promptly. Ryan's friend Shane is a carpenter and builds houses for a living, so he came over Saturday afternoon and he and Ryan spent a couple of hours climbing up on the roof and into the attic, trying to solve the mystery as to where the water was coming in. They think they have a rough idea and hopefully Shane (and Ryan) can take at it in the next couple of weeks when both of them are free.

Angela came over last night for the finale of the Amazing Race. It was the first chance I got to see her since she got back from Cuba last Thursday. She brought me back a cute decorative plate with a fish on it that I'm going to hang in my bathroom and she brought Ryan back a Cuban cigar :).

Playing Catch Up

Sorry the lack of postings this week. It's been a pretty busy and hectic week so far.

Tuesday I left work to go to my aunt's visitation at the funeral home in the evening. I re-acquainted with a lot of family memebers that I hadn't seen in many, many years. Some people who hadn't seen me since I was pre school age. It's sad that a lot of the times it takes a death in the family to bring us all together.

Yesterday I was off work for the day to attend my aunt's funeral in the afternoon. My day started bright and early with me taking my car in to get looked at since my check engine light was on. I knew it was nothing major because my car was running fine, just that the light was on. It turned out to be a fuel injector not spraying correctly, so they replaced it under warranty.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. with the commital and reception afterwards. From there my brother took me up to pick up my car and I met my immediate family back at my parent's place for supper. My Dad got back from his convention late in the afternoon, so it was nice to have supper together, the four of us.

Ryan was over last night after he got off work. We flipped in between American Idol and the hockey game before retiring for the evening.
